Some important things to know about advance planning your funeral.  This helps prepare you in understanding what is involved with planning your funeral ahead of time. Take the time to familiarize yourself with the following information and if you have any questions please ask.

Documents

Once you have made the decisions and paid the funeral cost, tell your family. Share with them what you have done and why it is important. Give a trusted member of your family a complete copy of all documents concerning your arrangements and the prepaid funeral contract.

Deposit of Money

The funeral director is required to deposit your money into a Pre planning account for your benefit. This money will remain on deposit until the time of your death or a request to cancel the contract.

Taxes

If your account requires the payments of taxes on the income earned, you will receive an INS 1099 for your record. If you do not file income tax, you do not have to file the report.

Receipt

You ill receive a receipt and documentation listing all the information concerning your account.

Guaranteed versus Non-guaranteed

If your contract is guaranteed and the choices of services and merchandise is paid in full and not changed, no additional money will be required for those items which are guaranteed.
On a non-guaranteed agreement, your family is responsible for any difference between the current charges at the time of the funeral and the amount in the ESCROW account.

Cancellation

You have thirty days to review your account and may cancel within this time for a full refund. After thirty days you will encounter some fees to cancel your account. On contracts certified “irrevocable” it cannot be canceled for any reason. Upon request the funeral director can transfer the contract to another funeral home.

When Death Occurs

Due to the fact that you have made arrangements in advance and pre-paid your funeral, your family should call Ware Smith Woolever upon your death. This must be done even if death occurs away from your home

Transferable

Your pre-paid funeral has been established for your benefit and can be transferred to any other funeral home of your choice at anytime.

It’s the Law

These standards and requirements are established by the Pre-paid Funeral Contract Funding Act 255 of 1986.
