Memorial Styles

Flush Markers

Sometimes referred to as a grass marker,  it is a memorial that is placed into the ground. The face of the memorial is flush with the ground. Many cemeteries require this style of memorial for ease of ground care,

Bevel Markers

The face has a slight bevel to it and is placed above ground on a foundation. The dimensions of a bevel vary but our standard is 6" to 8" above ground. They could be as large as 12". The sides on a bevel are what we call a rock pitch.

Sizes available for single or double graves.*

Slant Markers

This memorial is placed above ground on a cement foundation. The top of the slant can vary from a serpentine, straight, oval to western shapes. The back and sides can be rock, sawn or polish

Cemetery Regulations

Cemeteries may regulate

  • Size - some cemeteries limit grave marker size to meet the overall esthetic of the cemetery.

  • Style - as with size, style can be limited for esthetic or ease of ground care.

  • Granite Color - color may be limited to reflect an image that a cemetery would like to maintain

  • Design - limited to meet a theme set by the cemetery (e.g. Catholic Cemetery)

Knowing this in advance will be of great importance, limiting any problems that may occur with the cemetery by ordering the wrong memorial.   We can assist you with information of these cemetery regulations.

Memorial Sizing

Will the memorial be marking a single grave or a double grave site. This will help determine sizing of the memorial. In these two designations there are many sizes available to meet any need. The larger the memorial the greater the cost.

You may select a small marker to identify a single grave or you may choose a  large scale custom monument for a family plot.  You are limited by your imagination, budget or cemetery regulations.  This is where we can help you.

Granite Colors

If there is no cemetery regulation on color, then it becomes a decision of:

  • What color appeals to you.

  • What design you would like to use.  As some colors lend themselves to certain design.

  • There are standard granite colors:

    • gray, black, red, brown, pink and many custom colors.

    • Be aware the pricing varies from color to color. Availability and shipping go into pricing.

Black granites are best for the application of an etching, providing the available contrast and granite quality to insure a good etching.

Duplicate Markers

  • We can match the style and size of most existing markers.

  • We often can match granite colors. Yet we are limited as some stone colors may no longer be quarried.  Also remember that the color may vary from memorial to memorial from the same quary.

  • When ordering, let us know that you would like to match an existing stone.  We will go to the grave site and take the necessary measurements along with photos and a rubbing to insure the closest match possible.

Carving

  • There are several standard designs to choose from for each memorial style.

  • Selecting a pre-designed carving is part of the memorial cost.

  • You may also select from several single design items to mix and match to best reflect the commemorative nature of your memorial.

  • If you desire a custom design you will incur an additional cost, but by doing so you will create a truly unique memorial.

There are two styles of carving that we provide for our memorials.

  • The first being flat carved where the outline of the design is carved and interior of the design is paneled (polish is removed).

  • The second carving is what we call shaped carved where the outline of the design is carved and the interior of the design is shaped to provide a relief look to the design. The second method works well for flowers and plants. The choice of carving will influence the overall cost of the memorial.
