Stella Shivickas, 88, of Midland died on Tuesday morning, June 12, 2007, at MidMichigan Stratford Village Nursing Home in Midland. She was born on September 9, 1918, in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Joseph and Stella (Matitis) Shivickas. She graduated from Wayne State University and taught high school art for more than thirty years in the Detroit Public School System, retiring in 1974. Upon retiring, she spent fourteen years living on the shore of Lake Huron near AuGres before moving to Midland in 1988. After moving to Midland, she became more active in the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. Stella’s hobbies included bridge, cooking, dancing, drawing, music, painting, sculpture, theater, and travel. Stella was preceded in death by her “good” sister and best friend Virginia Shivickas. They lived together for over eighty years until Virginia’s passing in 2002. Although Stella and Virginia have no living relatives, they are survived by a large extended family including Karl, Lauren, Sara, Adam, and Kristen Keinath, Rich and Barbara Kormelink, Art and Lorri Palmer, Diana Frederick, Dan Sealy, Anita and Cecil Frye, Evelyn and Jon Lipowitz, Pat Papineau, Patty Davenport, Namiko Shima Golden, and Karen Nourallah.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 25th at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Midland located at 6220 N. Jefferson Avenue, Rev. Jane Thickstun officiating.
