John A. Snover, 77 of Midland, passed away peacefully January 24, 2010 at Mid Michigan Medical Center. He was born July 14, 1932 in Elmira, New York, son of the late Colonel L. and Jennie L. (Collins) Snover. He was married to Doreen (McNeil) from June 9, 1956 until 1983. Together they raised three children, Lynnsey (Michael) Parsons of Midland, Todd (Laurie) Snover of Manchester, Missouri and Wendy (Robert) Popoff of Iron Station, North Carolina. On September 20, 1986 he married Eunice Mettler. John has 7 grandchildren, Sgt. Aaron Parsons of Sanford, Carrie Parsons of Midland, Shannon, Madison and Jacquelyn Popoff of NC, Ryan and Jessica of MO and one great-grandson Thomas Parsons of Midland. He studied chemistry at Western Maryland College where he was on the football team. He also attended Purdue University. He worked as a Research Chemist with Dow Chemical Co. from 1965 until his retirement in 1986. He was one of the original members of the Ware-Smith bowling team that bowled on Thursday nights on the Northern Trails League at Northern Recreation and enjoyed golfing at Sandy Ridge. He has lived at Stratford Village for the last couple years. The family would like to thank the staff for their kind care. A special thanks to the staff of MidMichigan Medical Center ER and CCU for making his last hours comfortable. He is survived by (in addition to his family above) his brother Robert Snover of OR, sister Betty (Wayne) Givens of CO, sister-in-law Helen (Snover) Kelley, and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Dick, a sister Martha (Clifford) Angel, and a sister-in-law Nancy.
~Funeral~
Funeral services will take place at 11:00 am Saturday January 30, 2010 at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 W. Wheeler Street. Rev. Kirk Havel will officiate.
~Visitation~
John’s family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00-6:00 PM Friday and on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
