Maynard "Jack" Card

Maynard L "Jack" Card, 84, peacefully passed away February 1, 2010 at Central Michigan Hospital in Mt. Pleasant, Mi. He was born August 31,1925 in Gladwin, Ml to the late Frank and Cora (Coney) Card. Jack went to school in Edenville, Ml, where he graduated high school.
He joined the Army Air Corp in 1943-45 and served as an airplane armored gunner, he received the American Theater Ribbon and Victory Medal WWII. He then enlisted in the U. S. Air Force in 1945-51. He worked for Delco Moraine Saginaw Manufacturing Division, after many years of service, he retired in 1987.
He married Juanita "Neta" Skutt, February 5,1968 in Ripley, Tenn. She died February 2,1997. As a boy, Jack loved to fish with his grandfather, Jack said, "he took so long to get to the fishing hole and my grandfather never once caught a fish, I looked forward to those days he would come." Jack was a brilliant storyteller; his listener could brave the colds of Alaska, ride the open road through his travels in his motor home or see the dance of the hummingbird outside his window. He especially loved the times he spent with his sisters and brothers in law, Iva, Bill, Helen, Carl, he and his wife Neta, playing cards. Jack also loved the outdoors, hunting, traveling and was an avid fisherman. He loved animals or just time piddling around in the woods. After retiring Jack enjoyed warm winters in Texas and New Mexico, and summers camping in northern Michigan. He was very much loved and will be greatly missed. His legacy lives on.
He is survived by Dona Card of Roanoke, Va., Frank (Joyce) Card of Midland, Ben G. Card of Belleville, Sherry (Steve) Klapish of Midland, Vicki (Lloyd) Huber of Hope, Kenneth "Bud" (Gail) Skutt of Midland, Ira Skutt of Sanford, Danny (Connie) Skutt of Sanford, Barry (Joy) Skutt of Midland, Bennett (Sue) Skutt of Sanford. Jack was blessed with 42 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and numerous nieces, and nephews. He is also survived by his sister, Iva Hazzard, who lovingly cared for her brother for the last year and a half.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Marleigh Ann Dezelah, brother, Loyd Card, and sisters, Ada Blasdell and Helen Levely.

~Funeral Services~
Funeral services will take place at 11am Friday February 5, 2010, from Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 W. Wheeler St. Pastor John Pohanka will officiate with burial to follow in the Midland Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

~Visitation~
Mr. Card's family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8pm and Friday from 10am until time of the services.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Alzheimer's Association.
